Ancestor worship is one of the common rituals that Maroon in Suriname have in common with the inhabitants in Africa whence the ancestors came.
During these rituals, handmade objects are consulted as a way to communicate with the ancestors. This tradition reflects a deep spiritual connection, bridging the Maroons’ cultural heritage with the customs of their African forebears.
