This photo captures a 25-year-old Bruce Springsteen just after his visit to Tower Records. Springsteen was in LA promoting his new album ‘Born to Run’ 1975. The album was Springsteen’s first top 10 album and would cement him as a veritable rock and roll icon.
Behind the Lens: Terry O'Neill's Story:
Bruce Springsteen just happened to be walking down the famouse Sunset Strip at the same time as Terry O'Neill, and when they met they paused for a quick photo-shoot after noticing the large Born To Run billboard coincidentally in the background.
“My shots with Bruce were one of those god-given coincidences. I was living in Los Angeles at the time and I’d gone down to Tower Records on Sunset Boulevard to buy some music. As I walked out of the store I looked up – there on the big billboard by the side of the road was Springsteen’s Born to Run album being advertised, clearly intending to capture the attention of people going to the music store. I was about to jump in to car when I saw this guy walking down the street. It was Bruce. He’d come to see the advertising hoarding for himself. It was just too good an opportunity for me to miss.”
“Bruce was a good sport, happy to pose, and we had a great 10 minutes taking some really memorable, honest and in-the-moment shots.”
