KunstRAI

22 - 26 April 2026
Overview

SmithDavidson Gallery will participate in the upcoming edition of KunstRAI Amsterdam, presenting a curated selection of contemporary art, photography, and Australian Indigenous art.

The presentation brings together a group of established and emerging artists, including Zhuang Hong Yi, Marie Cecile Thijs, Terry O’Neill, Ingo Arndt, Pepe Valenti, Hanne Arends, Cathalijn Wouters, Matthijs Scholten, and Australian Indigenous artists Minnie Pwerle and Jack Dale Mengenen. Across these practices, the selection reflects a shared interest in materiality, narrative, and cultural context. The works on view range from expressive contemporary painting to photography that moves between documentary and conceptual approaches. Together, they offer a concise overview of diverse artistic positions within the current art landscape, while engaging with both local and international audiences.

A highlight of the presentation is the debut of Dutch artist Alf Bärbel Wit Peters, who joins the gallery’s roster and will be shown for the first time at KunstRAI. Working intuitively, Peters creates abstract paintings and drawings without a predefined plan. His compositions unfold through gesture, rhythm, and movement, resulting in a layered visual language where structure and openness exist alongside one another.

The rhythmic quality of his lines and brushstrokes encourages a contemplative viewing experience, guiding the viewer’s eye across the surface. While subtle affinities with artists such as Kandinsky, Miró, Haring, and Appel can be recognised, his work remains grounded in an intuitive process that prioritises feeling over formal theory. With its participation in KunstRAI Amsterdam, SmithDavidson Gallery continues to engage with an international audience and contributes to the fair’s focus on a broad range of artistic perspectives and dialogues.
