SmithDavidson Gallery and DOEN Rotterdam are pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibition by Dutch artist Marie Cécile Thijs. This exhibition marks the beginning of a new partnership between the two institutions, focused on the intersection of art, design, and contemporary culture.
Known for her still and carefully composed photographs, Thijs presents a selection of works that blend influences from 17th-century Dutch painting with a distinctly modern sensibility. Her portraits of flowers, animals, and everyday objects invite viewers into a surreal world where the familiar becomes unexpected.
The exhibition highlights works from her Flowers, Vases & Birds series, in which she pairs strong contrasts of light and shadow with historical Delftware vases, creating a connection between the past and present.
The opening will take place on Thursday, July 3rd at DOEN, Avenue Concordia 30, Rotterdam.
