SmithDavidson Gallery at Art on Paper Amsterdam 2026

SmithDavidson Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in Art on Paper Amsterdam, taking place from 12–15 February 2026 at De Kromhouthal in Amsterdam. The gallery will present work by three artists: Zhuang Hong YiMatthijs Scholten, and Cathalijn Wouters

At this edition of Art on Paper Amsterdam, a fair dedicated to art made on, with, or from paper, featuring galleries from the Netherlands and abroad, SmithDavidson Gallery will bring a selection of works that reflect diverse artistic approaches to material, mark-making, and expression.

Zhuang Hong Yi (b. 1962) bridges Chinese and Western visual traditions in his practice. After training in China and further study in the Netherlands, Zhuang has developed a distinct language of layered colour and floral motifs that explore growth and transformation. His pieces often merge traditional materials with contemporary abstraction.

Matthijs Scholten (b. 1983) draws on urban influences, incorporating gestures and faces that evoke elements of street art and weathered surfaces. His paintings focus on expressive forms and nuanced details, particularly in his attention to the gaze of his subjects.

Cathalijn Wouters (b. 1955) makes her debut with SmithDavidson Gallery at Art on Paper Amsterdam. A graduate of the St. Joost Art Academy in Breda, Wouters has developed a body of work shaped by a long engagement with line, form, and emotion. Her drawings and works on paper explore the interplay between figuration and abstraction, with an emphasis on how simple gestures can convey deeper human presence.

SmithDavidson Gallery looks forward to welcoming visitors to Art on Paper Amsterdam and presenting the work of these three artists during the fair.
