This September, SmithDavidson Gallery presents Reflections, bringing together the works of Zhuang Hong Yi and Pepe Valenti in a dialogue about perception, transformation, and the relationship between artwork and viewer.
Although their artistic languages differ, both artists create works that evolve through light, movement, and perspective. Zhuang Hong Yi’s sculptural flower paintings shift in colour as the viewer moves, bringing together Chinese artistic heritage and European painterly traditions. Pepe Valenti explores abstraction through layered surfaces, colour, geometry, and the physical properties of light, creating compositions that change with their surroundings and invite personal interpretation.
Reflections refers not only to light and changing perspectives, but also to contemplation, cultural dialogue, and the individual experience of art. Together, Zhuang and Valenti invite visitors to slow down, move around the works, and discover how each new perspective reveals something different.
