SmithDavidson Gallery is pleased to announce Never Enough, a new sculptural series by Belgian artist Vincent Lagrange. Known for his intimate animal portraits, most notably from his acclaimed photographic series Between Us, Lagrange now takes his practice in a radically new direction.
While Between Us invited viewers to look outward at the vulnerability and quiet dignity of animals, Never Enough turns the gaze back towards ourselves. The series explores excess, greed and humanity’s constant desire for more, confronting the moment at which abundance becomes overload.
The works initially began as photographs. Lagrange planned to create and photograph models that appeared to press against the boundaries of their frames. During the creative process, however, the models developed into independent sculptural objects. Cast in a hard, matte mineral composite and mounted in walnut frames, their seemingly soft forms swell, fold and push beyond their borders. The contrast between their seductive appearance and solid materiality creates a striking tension.
Within the series, the frame is more than a visual boundary. It represents the ecological, societal and personal limits we create, while the forms embody the forces that continuously challenge them. Each work captures a tipping point: the precise moment when something desirable becomes too much.
Following its successful Belgian premiere, SmithDavidson Gallery will present Never Enough in the Netherlands for the first time at PAN Amsterdam, taking place from 1 to 8 November 2026. The Dutch premiere marks the next step in the international introduction of this new body of work. In December, the gallery will present the series in the United States for the first time during Miami Art Week.
With Never Enough, Lagrange transforms the visual language of photography into physical space, creating works that are both visually seductive and sharply critical of the world we live in.
