Intuition : Pepe Valenti

28 March - 25 May 2025
  • SmithDavidson Gallery presents “Intuition”, a new online exhibition featuring recent work by Spanish artist Pepe Valenti.

“Intuition" explores how the artist’s intuition shapes his creative process. By shaping raw industrial materials, soft organic forms emerge with a refined, polished finish.

The relationship between the untamed natural materials and the soft, refined beauty of Pepe Valenti’s artworks offers a constant tactile contrast between source and result.

The online exhibition “Intuition” offers a digital preview of Valenti’s work ahead of SmithDavidson Gallery’s upcoming presentation at KunstRAI Art Amsterdam, which will feature new work by Pepe Valenti.

About the work: Pepe Valenti’s Story:

“A door to another dimension, invites you on a journey to behold beauty, to wander off from our realities, to become present. Drawing inspiration from the captivating nature of water, this fountain has been hand-crafted to embody its essence in a unique form.

Much like gazing into a body of water, this installation allows you to peer through its transparent façade while simultaneously capturing reflections that shift with every passing moment. At its core, this fountain embodies the interplay between solid and fluid elements, sparking an intriguing dialogue between the contrasting materials of water and metal.

  • “When looking out across the sea towards the horizon, I see a magical phenomenon where an infinite number of sparkling reflections are created by the sunlight hitting the water’s surface. The movement of the waves creates an aesthetic harmony of darting light reflection which becomes a moment I am mesmerized by” - Pepe Valenti

  • About the Artist

"As an artist, my fascination lies in delving into the intricate relationship between humanity and nature, particularly with water. Its reflective properties and harmonious dance with its surroundings evoke a sense of wonder that never ceases to captivate."

Mostly working in the fields of art and collectible design. Pepe Valenti is a sculpture and installation artist. Pushing the boundaries of both design and art, asking when does design become art, and when does art become design.

Valenti was born in Barcelona, but moved to London at the age of 12. When he turned 18 Valenti came to study in the Netherlands at the Design Academy Eindhoven where he graduated in 2022, with El Mar Installation being his graduation project. He has been a full-time artist since then, in 2023 he was nominated for the Kazerne Design Award, and he won the Zuiver Scholarship 2023.

Pepe Valenti employs an intuitive and hands-on approach, where he explores his fascination for materials. The work results from a search to understand materials and processes, and he does so by physically experimenting with them: thinking through making. Valenti's inspiration comes from raw and untouched matters surrounding us, while my work remains very polished and refined, creating an interesting contrast between the source and the outcome.
