Marc Lagrange: Photography in Focus

20 June - 17 August 2025
  • "I'm rather visually inclined and photography happens to be a medium that allows me to emphasize the beauty of people and composition." - Marc Lagrange
  • Filled with longing and sensuality, Marc Lagrange’s photographs celebrate fantasies and desire, placing beauty and dreams at the center of his world.

Marc Lagrange was born in Kinshasa, Congo, in 1957. His career path led him from engineering to photography, and his creativity from fashion to art. Privileging analog over digital, the Antwerp-based Belgian artist searches for intimacy and emotion as opposed to artificial effects.

Lagrange was known for his signature giant Polaroids, exhibited around the world, which capture skin textures, curves, and the unique aura of his models. His process involved building detailed sets to create specific moods. From wall colors to furniture choices, no element was left to chance, reflecting his perfectionist approach and deep commitment to storytelling.

Throughout his career, Lagrange worked closely with a small circle of muses, revisiting them over the years to build trust and continuity. One such muse was Inge Van Bruystegem, a striking model and dancer he collaborated with for over fifteen years.
Their enduring creative relationship allowed for an extraordinary sense of openness and trust, rare in photography, resulting in images that are both raw and revealing.

His work consistently celebrated feminine power. Even in nude portraits, his subjects appear in full control, confident, enigmatic, and active participants in the story being told. Lagrange respected the mystery of women, ensuring they were never objectified, but portrayed with grace and presence.

Since his sudden death in a car accident in Tenerife in 2015, his legacy lives on through his timeless photographs of boundless sensuality and elegance and his artworks continue to be recognized and honored worldwide.
