Encounters in the Wild: by Ingo Arndt

31 December 2025 - 8 February 2026
SmithDavidson presents Encounters in the Wild presenting a selection of works by Ingo Arndt, a German photographer whose practice is rooted in long-term immersion in natural environments. From an early age, Arndt spent much of his time outdoors, a formative experience that shaped both his photographic approach and his commitment to environmental awareness. Photography became, for him, not only a way of observing nature, but also a means of contributing to its protection.

  • Arndt works almost exclusively in the wild, often spending months in remote locations. This extended presence allows him to observe animal behavior patiently and without intrusion. His images are not constructed moments but the result of time, trust, and careful attention. Whether photographing pumas in Patagonia, gorillas in Rwanda, or Arctic wildlife, Arndt seeks to show animals within the context of their habitats, emphasizing the fragile balance between species and environment.

Traveling and working closely with his wife, graphic designer Silke Arndt, he produces work that is both visually precise and thoughtfully presented. His photographs have appeared in international publications such as National Geographic and GEO, and have been exhibited worldwide.

Rather than focusing on spectacle, Arndt’s images invite careful looking. They encourage viewers to recognize the dignity of wild animals and to reflect on the growing pressures faced by ecosystems across the planet. Through quiet, sustained observation, his work asks what it means to coexist responsibly with the natural world.
