“Through ‘Waves of Color’, I invite everyone to immerse themselves in a dynamic flow of hues and forms, where each piece reflects the rhythmic energy and vibrancy of nature that inspires me every day!”
- Zhuang Hong Yi, Spring 2025
Waves of Color brings together new works by Zhuang Hong Yi from various series including the artist’s latest ‘Waves Series’ which introduces a new sculptural dimension to the spectacular explosion of color already present in the oeuvre of Zhuang Hong Yi.
SmithDavidson Gallery is excited to announce the latest solo presentation by internationally acclaimed artist Zhuang Hong Yi (Sichuan, 1962). His colourful and intricate flower field works have captured the imaginations of art lovers worldwide, as shown by the success of the artist’s recent overview ‘Kaleidoscope’ at the Powerlong Museum in Shanghai, China.
Having his roots both in Chinese and in Western European culture, the flower has been a significant image of transcendence for the artist and serves as a universal symbol of prosperity and optimism. The flower softens cultural differences through dialogue and simultaneously highlights the beauty in individual differences with the ever-changing insights in Zhuang’s captivating paintings.
SmithDavidson Gallery is the longstanding gallery for Zhuang Hong Yi, and since their first collaboration in 2012, David Smith & the artist have built a friendship that has strengthened over the past decade, creating successful presentations all over the world.
